Battlefield

I am fighting a battle.

There are attacks on many fronts, but it's definitely fear that I'm fighting today.

Fear about the outcome of this reorganization.
(More to come on this later.)

Fear for the difficulties of living so far from our family.
(I miss them and I ache for their presence and support pretty much daily.)

Fear that you won't like who I am.
(I like who I am.  God likes who I am.  I take comfort in that, but there's still that part of me that hurts when you stop liking me.)

I'm sure there are others.  Please tell me that I'm not the only one who worries!

This verse came to mind while I prepared for the day....

2 Timothy 1:7

New Living Translation (NLT)
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

It reminded me that I have a choice:

I can worry.
I can be ruled by fear.
I can be timid.

or

I can choose:

To be ruled by a Spirit of power,
a Spirit of love,
and a Spirit of self-discipline.

That being said, and a few reminders in place, this day is now brought to you by a spirit of power, love and self-discipline!  Who is with me?

Pinnable Me-Home Office Dreamspaces

The time has come for me to use the Home Office for its intended purpose... officing!

Problem is, if I'm honest, it has become kind of a stash zone.  There are craft supplies and papers to file and art projects to store and... and... and...

It's time to go out with the old and in with the new!

So I bought this old table as my desk.  And I thought I had a photo of it on my iPhone, but alas!, I do not at this time.  Maybe we can do a before and after reveal later on the blog.  For now, let's get on to my inspiration or better said, {Pinspiration}!

And while you're at it, you can check out {my other pin boards} and follow me!  wink, wink

This is how I picture myself in my office, being productive and creative (and cute and barefoot!).

I'm totally digging the freshness of these colors!

I love the idea of the old table desk sooo much.  Jeremy bought me a fabulous one off of CraigsList.  Now my job is to determine what color to paint it, if I'm painting it at all!

I really, really want to find an old desk chair and guest chairs and give them new life with a fresh coat of paint...
and some fabric...
This one looks a lot different in real life.

Every workspace needs some inpiring artwork...

Some great lighting...
J'adore this chandeliere!

A big lamp on top of my desk!
And a place to keep important documents...

And a place to capture that inspiration!

Let the work begin!

Creativity: Unleashed

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

"It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them."
~Steve Jobs [BusinessWeek, May 25, 1998]

People call us a techie family.
Correction:  We are an Apple family.
(Jeremy would be soooo proud that I'm saying this.)

We have one lone PC remaining and that poor HP sits lonely and idly around the house most days.  I've lost count of the number of iPods we had and have had.  Apple plays our music, our TV shows, and keeps us connected to our faraway family and friends.  My four-year-old can make a call unassisted with my iPhone to anyone in my contacts list.

For someone I've never met, Steve Jobs changed my life in a way I'd never have imagined.

The creativity and ingenuity he brought to technology is legendary.  He was the Walt Disney or the Willie Wonka of our adult lives where dreams of infinite amounts of candy and magical stories were replaced by the unleashing of our productivity, connectedness and creativity through exceptional technology and tools.  He led us into a world where the impossible became possible.  The things we never knew we wanted were things we simply had to have.  As Guy Kawasaki, who worked closely with Steve in the Macintosh division for many years, said it... "Apple is the most enchanting company."

I never dreamed that one day I'd be able to:
wake up to any song I that want to
on an alarm clock
on my telephone
that goes everywhere with me,
that currently houses 27 versions of the Bible
and multiple other books,
that tells me the forecast,
and the news,
that keeps me connected
face-to-face, like we're sitting in the same room,
and through all types social media,
and text messages and instant messages,
and keeps my entire family's calendars up-to-date and completely in sync,
and manage tasks, projects, and priorities for my work and personal life,
not to mention, takes and edits photos and video,
creates shopping and to do lists that instantly share with Jeremy,
and gets me where I need to go with turn-by-turn directions, even on public transportation!
or tracks my run distances, speed, maps, etc. (when I'm actually doing it!)
and tracks all kinds of aspects of my health,
and manages my [lousy] Fantasy Football team,
and keeps my toddler occupied while waiting in quiet places
and keeps me entertained [and sometimes even productive!] when I'm riding the commuter bus,
and lets me surf the internet,
where I can do virtually anything
like...
find a recipe, put it in my menu planner, and have it automatically sync it to my iCal with a link to the recipe
or book plane tickets
or buy gifts to be delivered to my doorstep in a day
or make dinner reservations and order take out
or find a valid coupon to a store as I stand in the check out line
or learn the meaning of a word or phrase I don't know
or sign my attendance card at church
or check my account balances and transfer funds
or play word games with my friends across the country
or choose a movie at the best theatre with the best time and buy the tickets if I want to
or watch tv and movies
and even blog!
And I'm sure I've only touched the tip of the iceberg of what it's capable of....

Steve Jobs, you left a wondeful mark on this planet or as you put it, you truly did put a "ding on this universe" and your fingerprints are all over my happy, Uncontainable Life.  I want to thank you for all that you created that makes it possible for me to manage this wonderful life that is mine.  I owe a lot to you and your merry band of pirates who set out to change the world.  You have changed my world!

"What have I done today that is wonderful?"

Raw Faith and Building Projects

I've wrestled.
I've argued.
I've struggled in my faith.

If you've read my 100 Things post, you have heard me describe my faith as raw.  At one time, it wasn't so.  It seemed like more of a complete structure.  Ornamented and decorated.  I was proud.  And I was judgmental.  I'm ashamed of that.

As circumstances would have it (and by "circumstances", I mean God's mysterious ways), the structure I thought was my faith was knocked completely down to it's foundation.  I felt that I was sure of one thing... God made me to be with Him and because of my sin, Jesus died to rescue me and bring me back to Himself.  Salvation.  It took me a while to admit that that was where I was.  After earning a four year Bible degree and spending nearly 10 years in ministry, that was a hugely humbling place to find myself.  Very few understood.

I've longed to put pure pieces in the structure that goes upon that foundation.  It has been a pretty unconventional process thus far, to say the least.  I find myself drawn to those things which are heavily scented with grace and the love of God.  His holiness stirs up more reverence in me than ever before... it's a subject that I hesitate to speak on with any authority, much the way I imagine the old testament saints would have avoided using God's very name for fear of saying it incorrectly.  He is completely holy.  The thought itself is untouchable.  The process continues, examining pieces and slowly building.

It seems unconventional because God's truth seems to hit me from unexpected places.  Like the other night, I was at a concert and honestly, I was somewhat disengaged from the experience.  When all of the sudden, about halfway through the lyrics of this song, it started echoing some thoughts my heart has been beating out for quite some time, but hadn't quite found these words to express itself.  I was compelled to find the lyrics later and listen again and again and again.  Tears stream down my cheeks because I feel understood and heard and hopeful.  Hopeful that His bride, the church, could truly nurture and care for those who are hurting in our pews, in our neighborhoods, and in our friends lists.

Song For My Family
Words and music by Michael Gungor

There is a song for my family
Outside the walls of Sunday
Morning from some within.
This is a song to confess our sins,
Lay it all out, and try to begin again.
To hope again.

Please forgive our ignorance
In looking down on you
Please forgive our selfishness
For hiding in our pews while the world bleeds
While the world needs us to be what we should be

This is a song for my family who
Just can’t believe in the Jesus that you’ve seen on Sunday morning.

This is a song for the cynical saints.
The burned out and hopeless.
The ones that we’ve cast away.
I feel your pain.

Please forgive the wastefulness of all that we could be
But don’t forget, there’s more than this
Her beauty still exists
His bride is still alive
His bride is still alive
His bride is still alive
His bride is still alive
His bride is still alive

This is a song for my family inside
The walls of Sunday morning.
Be what you should be.
