"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." ~Maya Angelou
I've been thinking about dreams a lot lately, not the noctural variety, but the type you have when you are {fully awake}. Jim Morris, a.k.a. {The Rookie}, spoke at church on Sunday and he addressed the issue of dream makers and dream killers. That thought apparently resonated in me, because it's Thursday morning and I still can't stop thinking about it. In a nutshell, we all have people in our lives who kill our dreams by telling us we'll never do "it" because it's impossible for us, whatever your "it" happens to be. But there are also those people who believe in you and believe in your dreams and their support somehow boosts you up to grab that next rung and the next until you realize your dream is actually reality. He encouraged us to surround ourselves with dream makers.

I've been dreaming... a lot.
I can identify at least three people in my life right now who I would classify as my dream makers. Three? Wow. I'm lucky! What sets them apart?
They verbalize their belief in me.
I can compare this with a significant person in my life, who would listen to my dreams and fears about my dreams, offer virtually no feedback, then when I managed to acheive my goal, would follow up by saying, "Of course you did it. I knew you would." But this person wasn't a dream maker because anyone can believe you can acheive your dreams after the fact. A dream maker tells you you will achieve your dream before your dream is realized.
They contribute to my dreams.
Thoughts, resources, ideas, practical support, encouragement, accountability.
They won't let me settle for the status quo.
It's the most gentle pushing. I don't fear rejection for failure with them, but I do crave the praise that comes with reaching the next rung. It's a difficult, but effective balance. And I appreciate them for it!
So, yeah, I feel surrounded by dream makers, but feel like I could certainly add more! One of my dream makers is a beautiful woman I literally met two and a half weeks ago. I'm still blown away by how quickly that happened. Definitely a "God thing"!
I truly hope that I am a dream maker to people in my life. Mine have meant sooo much to me and I want to follow their lead.

I love that! I am so blessed through and through to have you as a friend. You made my day even brighter. I wanted to share a quote with you that used to carry around with me.
ReplyDelete"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours."
Henry David Thoreau
And then I would add:
"Lord, today and always I give all that I am to you". Please Advise me and open my heart to hear you - Amen"
I live you girlfriend! Dream on...isn't that a song?
Baby, I love you and I want to dream with you forevers!
ReplyDeleteHow can you go wrong quoting aerosmith Diana?
Diana! Jeremy took me to District 7 Grill for lunch on Monday. (haha, I know, I'm slightly obsessed with that place.) I literally read him the quote you wrote in the blog post comment because it was in my 48 Days book I had read that morning! Loved the thought and the push toward action.
