I may be a half marathon dropout, but I'm no quitter!

Sometimes in this lifeuncontainable, reality sinks in.

What I mean is that sometimes it more than just bubbles over, it pours out over the sides and down the table and onto the floor.  That was my December.  Not quite literally, but almost.  There really were a lot of good, no great, things happening!  So much so that I just couldn't keep up.  I went through the crazy season at work plus an incredibly full social calendar and finished the holidays feeling like I'd just stepped off of a wild merry-go-round.  It took about three weeks for my brain to stop spinning.

And that's why I'm a dropout.

I just didn't make the time for training for the half marathon.  I admit it was probably too ambitious to think I could train during my busiest season at work, especially since the economy is much better this year and EVERYONE decided to reinstate their holiday parties.  By the end of each day, I'd squeezed out every last drop of energy between family, work, and social commitments fun, that I didn't even think about putting on my running shoes.

Last year (2010), I was able to make it happen.  I was after myself about not doing what it took.  I was lamenting the days that had passed.  I was reasoning with myself about whether or not I could pull it off this year.  And I just didn't know what to do.

Enter {Roxanne, fitness coach} and friend.  I asked her for some advice and literally laid out my schedule between the date I wrote and race day.  When Roxanne wrote me back and said, "Delay."  I'm not gonna lie, my heart sank.  She said it was doable, but nothing to stress over.  It's supposed to be fun, after all!  She's right {Proverbs 27:6}.

So, I took a couple of days and let the news sink in.  Then I took a few more days before I developed Plan B.  (Which by the way, I'm quite satisfied with.  And I'm very thankful that it fits into my Event Planner lifestyle!)  So, without further ado, I present you Plan B.

Instead of running the half at the end of the month, I'll be handing out these bad boys with a friend at the finish line to the Chevron Houston Marathon Finishers... seemed like a fun job!
P.S.  I don't see running a full marathon in my future.  In case you wondered.

Training is underway for the (drumroll, please)...

Should be perfect timing!  There is plenty of time to get in my long runs, just in time to schedule my surgery on my left foot afterwards (and have my short term disability account refilled by then), and hopefully enough time to recover and train for the....

Followed by the...
but that's just for fun.

I'll keep you posted!

  4. It sounds like you made a wise choice. I've decided to do charity walks this year. Walks, not runs. :) Maybe one day I'll work up to the running part. For now, I decided if I walk anyway, I may as well do it for a good cause. :) I was very disappointed to see that a lot of the walks aren't until fall though. Hopefully I'll find some between now and then. First up on the roster: Shamrock Shuffle. In April. Not really sure why it's in April and not March, but whatever. I'm also not quite sure it's for charity, but that's ok. I'll keep you posted on this new plan. :)
